PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad — Trinidad and Tobago’s Minister of Transport, Senator Devant Maharaj, said he has not agreed to meet with the officials at REDjet at their request until they have secured an air operators certificate (AOC) from the Barbados government.
Redjet has written to the director general of the Trinidad and Tobago Civil Aviation Authority (TTCAA) indicating that “the airline’s shareholders were obliged to suspend operations as continued funding of the current business plan was contingent on the activation of agreement that was concluded between the shareholders of REDjet and the government of Barbados in January this year” and requested dialogue with the TTCAA in the interim.

HAVANA, Cuba (ACN) — Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez will not participate in the Sixth Summit of the Americas, underway in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, Foreign Minister Nicolas Maduro has announced.
The Venezuelan diplomat said Chavez was due to travel instead to Cuba to continue his medical treatment. He added that though Chavez won’t be physically present, he will follow the debates that the heads of state and government will start this afternoon.
Maduro reaffirmed that the Latin American countries participating in the Summit will defend the dignity of their peoples, as part of the new independence process the region is going through.
ST GEORGE’S, Grenada — Opposition leader Dr Keith Mitchell has repeated his often-made appeal for Grenada’s Prime Minister Tillman Thomas to dissolve parliament and call an immediate general election.
Mitchell’s latest appeal came on Thursday against the backdrop of recent comments from Thomas, who said the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) is divided between the “forces of good and evil” and accused unnamed persons in the NDC of trying to “restrict” him from interacting with the rank and file of the party.
There are also reports of tension in the NDC over the selection of candidates for general elections that are due by next year.
